- Open Instagram. It’s the red, orange, and purple camera icon, usually found on the home screen. If you don’t have Instagram, check out using Instagram to learn how to install it now.
- Press the house icon to view your story channel. It’s in the lower-left corner of the screen. If you are already in the stories channel, you can skip this step.
- Look for the ‘Stories’ bar. At the top of your channel you will see several circles containing the profile photos of your friends. Each of these circles represents that friend’s Instagram story. Stories that you haven’t seen (or that have been updated since you last saw them) have multi-colored outlines. The stories you have seen have a thin gray outline. If you are looking at the stories for the first time, all outlines should be multi-colored. Scroll right over the ‘Stories’ bar to see all available stories. The first story is your own story.
- Tap a story to see it. The story will play itself. When it’s done, the next story will start automatically (although, if you want, you can swipe left to skip a photo or video). The horizontal lines at the top of the screen indicate how many photos or videos are in the story. They also act as a progress bar, showing you how much of the story remains to be seen. To hear sound, press the volume up button on the side of your phone or tablet.
